Dean = Perot? Howard Dean’s numbers have been skyrocketing this summer. He’s now considered by many as the front-runner for the Democratic nomination; ready to be the runner up in 2004. However, Dean has been criticized for not having any minority support, specifically African-Americans. From my experience Dean draws an economically diverse crowd, but at both events I attended, the minority count was very low. And from what I have read, this is the scene wherever Dean goes. Will Dean’s lack of dealing with minorities coupled with his mouth get him into trouble? Remember Ross Perot’s gaffe? While addressing the NAACP, he made reference to “your people.” Poor Ross didn’t even know he was putting his foot in his mouth. Dean, coming from a state that is 98% white, may be capable of the same type of mistake. Just like Robert Byrd shouldn’t be caught buying white sheets at Bed, Bath and Beyond, Dean might want to be watchful of his words, otherwise he might land in the hot seat with Black, and other minority voters. He gets his first shot tonight at the Congressional Black Caucus Institute debate on FOX News. ninedwarfs.com
