Actually the phrase is nearly a tautology. Note the key construct <font color=brown> blind to it</font>. I did not write blind to everything. The sentence could be rewritten in generalities to:

If you can't see <this> then you are blind to <this>.

Now you might complain that it is an exageration when I wrote <font color=brown>forever blind</font> since I preclude the possiblility of gaining the ability to see in the future, but that is merely a rhetorical device to illustrate how obvious I think that example of manipulation and deception is. Rhetorically, by emphasising that example as obvious, it tacitly acknowledges that some of the other examples are more subtle.

My old 7th grade english, grammer, and comprehension teacher used to throw chalk at any kid she thought was daydreaming or not paying sufficient attention to the lesson.
