I knew during the 2000 campaign that they would squander the surplus. I knew at that time that there would be no surplus to cover the tax cuts. It is inconceivable that Bush did not realize we were in economic decline and those surpluses would vanish. In spite of that, he went ahead and pushed for those tax cuts. Alan Greenspan will have to serve a long time in purgatory to cover his sin of telling us that future surpluses would be bad for the economy. Surely, you must remember Greenspan talking about those evil surpluses?
