All that you say is reasonable, but it does not grapple adequately with the main point. We have conceded that interpretation is needed, and that extrapolation is reasonable in some cases. Now, it is a matter of interpretation what the "privileges and immunities" clause means in the 14th amendment, but it is reasonable, in looking for what could be referred to, at the bill of rights, and particularly the 1st amendment. Trying to complete the interpretation, it makes sense to suppose that what the Congress cannot do to trample civil liberties, the state cannot do..........
