This is a great example of why I say that we are guaranteed victory over the Arabs in the cultural wars if we just leave them alone. The strength of America is in its business, not in its military. Our military can break things and kill people, but it can't change anyone's mind. It's our businesses that change people's habits, customs and minds.

Exactly. Politics follows culture, it doesn't create or make culture. That was one of the things that was wrong with Lenin and Stalin. They thought they could create culture, the "new" man. Politics can repress or stunt, for sure, but it can't in any direct way force a culture into preconceived ways. If our leaders had really understood this, they wouldn't have done what they did, IMHO. Instead they look at the success they have manipulating public opinion with clever ads and innuendo, and think that they duplicate their success abroad. They haven't learned one of the important lessons that many companies have learned over the past few decades: ads don't travel across cultures well, even across cultures that share the same language like the US and GB, and even less across cultures which are radically different from each other.
