There is a right to free association. But it is a private right, not a public right.

If you want to exclude blacks from your house, you are free to do so.

But if you want to engage in public activities, such as opening a business or renting out rooms or sellign your house, you can't discriminate.

A private club can discriminate. A public business can't.
