Dean is in third place per the new CNN poll, but the race is very tight. Lieberman I expect will fall back. That leaves Dean and Kerry.
It's a race the Kerry people invite. Why? Because in the long run, they know the Dem party needs someone who can take away Bush's military macho issues without appearing to be a angry Vermont peacenik. Coming from a towering Silver Star winner and top expert on international and military affairs, the Dems can do this. Dean will be branded as a loud-mouthed, little upstart from a very liberal state with no experience. Ben + Jerrys, Birkenstock will get said millions of times. You may not believe it yet, but it will stick.
Also, no way Dean will get the 37% Super Delegates. To win, he'd have to sweep the primaries and get over 50% of the vote. Not gonna happen. Not even close. Expect every candidate but Kucinich who pulls out to back Kerry, plus the Clintons, Gore, you name it. This will take awhile, but mark my words, it will happen.
Fortunately almost all Dean supporters also like Kerry. In the end, it won't be a problem. One reason Kerry has refrained from attacking Dean when he's ha plenty of chances and ammunition. |
