When I first started working in the components industry in 1978 at HP as a summer intern, the department of defense required critical components be built, tested, etc. on US soil. What if there is another major war, perhaps involving China? Tough to run an army on laptop PCs when they are all imported from Taiwan and China could nuke the island. The Cisco routers depend on ASICs built at Asian foundries. Etc... Long shots for any of this to happen, but this terrorism biz could get nasty if we keeep playing political football. Just thinking aloud...
