He had a peace dividend from the Reagan years and tons of money flowing into the treasury. He also had a GOP congress which, for one brief moment in history, exercised a bit of fiscal restraint. I'm deeply disappointed that more aspects of the Contract with America didn't get implemented. Both major parties (and Bush) have gone to fiscal hell in a handbasket lately. I don't want either "compasionate conservatism" or "liberal loonyism". I want deep structural spending cuts across the board to get this country back on the right track.
