I'd rather refrain from using words "inflation" and "deflation" altogether. They are just too confusing because everyone has a contradictory opinion on what they mean.

I don't know who you've been hanging out with, but no, not really. "Inflation", as in CPI or PPI inflation, is a number. That number is calculated in a certain way. That calculation is done with the prices of selected goods and services. I cannot think of any possible way to define CPI and PPI inflation so that your comment "Rising prices without rising wages is not inflationary" can be true.

Anyway, if you are thinking of something else, maybe you'd like to refrain from using the term "inflation", because that confuses those of us who are a little familiar with its calculation.
