GM - good article from the Economist --

For perspective, they're generally considered in the
'very conservative' range.

They did pin an awful lot of importance on the dividend
yield and its relationship to stock value. The article
did allude to today's 'profile' investor being more
risk tolerant -- in theory. But what wasn't covered or
imagined was the concept of that new profile placing
less importance on dividends.

If 'the new breed' were open to the idea of potential
dividend monies being used to strengthen the company's
future, then you would find your dividend yield going down,
stock valuations up, and a justified valuation for both
divYld and stock val. It would be requisite upon the company
to follow through, rather than use the money somewhere else.
Still, the 'new profile' would be up for this -- I think
they may be doing just that in a 'synchronicitious' sense.
(with or via synchronicity)

Of course, I just 'supposing' here...no data, no evidence.
But SI's threads are a good indicator of today's 'profile'
investor. I visit about 25 threads and now that I think
about it, I don't recall anybody really talking about:
DIVIDENDS....maybe my theory has some water.

On another topic, Ice had talked about manipulation some
time back...I just read a great exchange dealing with it.
This more about manipulation from a trader, but goes into
depth about MM tactics as well:
