Grace, I don't buy it. Other cultures smoke more than we do and that is worse that overeating junk food as far as heart and cancer goes, and they are the two leading causes of death. It may be some of the stress for success bit Americans have that some cultures do not. But while that might help explain the French Paradox, it doesn't work for the Japanese, who are the most stressed people I've ever seen. It could be that there is no grounding of tradition here, though that is also the reason why we are the most innovative nation in history.
