There are very few times you are required to act against conscience when you have not put yourself in the position of having to make that choice.

The draft was one such time. Consciencious objectors had no way, other than leaving the country, to avoid making the decision. Paying taxes for war is another. But it isn't violating your conscience to say "if you want to engage in such and such behavior, that's your choice, but if you make that choice, you will have to act in a certain way which may violate your conscience."

Our hypothetical masseuse could have become an actuary, a computer programmer, or whatever. He chose to become a masseuse, and there are certain societal requirements that come along with that.

Society does not have to assure that every choice a person makes in their life will be free from any need to make a decision affecting conscience.

Members of PETA should not become furriers.
