three weeks ago i was in oklahoma. i went into an albertson's grocery store and they had a tank of lobsters going for 9.99/lb. i wanted to buy 14 lobsters, so i said could i get a price break, since that was just about all they had. the kid (probably 22) behind the counter thinks a minute and says, well, how about 7.50 a pound. so i pause, and think, and i say, well how about 7.00 a pound. the kid hesitated for a second and said 6.50. I said fine.
it took several tries trying to explain to him to load four in a bag with a seperate bag of ice. half the time he dropped a lobster on the floor only to return it to the tank, and then pull it out again.
he's waiting on other customers in between the process.
finally he asks the meat guy to help him out. he starts explaining to the meat guy i'm buying all of these lobsters and how he gave me a special price. the meat guy says to him, well, that wasn't such a good idea. he's probably paying less than what the store paid for them. the kid says, well it's too late now, cuz i already told him the price.
at the end, the kid is real nervous and hands me the lobsters and says, wow, i could loose my job over these lobsters. I said with great surprise, why? how could that happen. he says, well, i like to bargain with the customers some times and i don't always give them the price that's posted. I said, oh. well, I wouldn't worry about it and thanked him for all of his hard work. |
