Happy Birthday!

How was the concert?

The train ride into the city yesterday was sort of a somber
one. The train was filled early. Every seat taken and
people standing. Many of them were getting an early start
to Ground Zero.

As I looked from my aisle seat I could see the World Trade
Center elevated above each person's seat. The buildings
were resurrected in newspaper. Some had planes flying into
them but most of them just appeared normal. Then there
were a few newpapers who had renditions of the proposed
replacement architecture.

Then all day long while I worked it seemed that there were loud
fire engines heading somewhere. And each time we'd hear
the sirens we all could not help but walk over to the window
to see if the Empire State Building was still there or on
fire.

All day long I kept thinking out my buddy Chris who was
killed there. He worked for Cantor Fitzgerald. I wonder
how his family is doing. How his kids are doing without
him. How his wife copes with day to day struggles. It
must be awfully tough on them.

I felt really happy to be able to be back home after that
commute. Glad to be able to go to football practice and
glad to do a lot of stuff with my family.

HBO ran a documentary last night about 911. Glad I caught
part of it. Could have watched it all night long. I was
suprised the networks didn't have more about it.

P.S. I'm off to the mountains this morning. Just in time to help me unwind.
