roger's gets into DVD for rental and sale
TORONTO, Aug. 7 /CNW/ - Movie lovers, channel surfers, and video game
fanatics looking for that complete home entertainment experience can now find
it all at one location. Rogers Video, the country's largest Canadian-owned and
operated video retailer, today announced the launch of its new flagship store
offering complete home entertainment services, with the official opening of
the Front Street location in downtown Toronto.
The new flagship store will not only supply one of the largest selections
of movies on video, but also provide customers with a wide range of home
entertainment options such as a full line of Rogers Cable services, video
games, digital video discs (DVD), new and previously viewed movie videos for
sale, and confectionery items.
``We can now offer our customers greater flexibility when it comes to
that home entertainment experience,'' says Chuck van der Lee, president and
chief operating officer, Rogers Video. ``We listened to their needs and
designed a focused, fully-integrated concept that puts customer service
first.''
In future, most Rogers Video locations will offer fully integrated cable
services such as ``Pay-Per-View'' and ``Pay TV''; more than 1,800 new movie
releases; up to 10,000 catalogue movies; up to 1,000 video games; up to 3,000
new and previously viewed movies for sale; and a selection of confectionery
items. Rogers Video is also the first major video specialty chain to carry
digital video discs (DVD) for rental and sale.
``With our one-stop shopping concept, our customers definitely receive
more value for their money. Now they can pay their cable bill while sampling
the newest video games and choosing a movie,'' says Jos Winterman, president
and chief executive officer, Rogers Cablesystems Ltd. ``Overall, we have
created a store where the shopping experience is part of the entertainment.''
Currently, Rogers Video has 185 stores located in key markets across
Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia. The Front
Street location is the first in downtown Toronto and the 80th in Ontario.
Additionally, the company plans to open more than 30 new stores across the
country this year.
Recently selected by the North American Video Software Dealers
Association as the 1997 `Canadian Video Retailer of the Year', Rogers Video is
wholly owned by Rogers Cablesystems Limited, Canada's largest cable television
network. Rogers Video employs more than 2,000 people and is based in Richmond,
B.C., with a central distribution facility in Calgary and an eastern regional
office in Toronto. All Rogers Video stores are corporately owned and operated.
