*I'm sick of hearing about all the manipulation that goes on to explain run ups and crashes, tight spreads and close spreads.* nope - no manipulation by MMs at all - that's why 3 major market making firms (make markets in 1600 issues) were fined $45million today - nope no manipulation - wake up and smell the coffee do you know how a market maker makes a market ? do you know how it differs from an auction market as are the NYSE/AMEX ? did you know that the SEC found evidence of manipulation ? do you know what new rules they've instituted because of habitual abuse of the system by market makers ? go to your favorite search engine and find the SEC's home page or better yet search on market makers - you'll find some interesting articles to be sure. i don't have any URLs off hand but it'll be an exercise best left to the reader
