"I am, however, assuming it is not, in fact, part of his professional obligation to take all who are assigned him........."

No. But it is an ethical consideration to not sexually exploit ones client. So whether or not a professional excludes clients, it may be assumed that they are capable of dealing with sexual issues if they are competent. So one wonders on what basis a client is being excluded out of hand if they have not given warning that they intend to violate a sexual ethic? I can understand a therapist not wishing to treat his ex wife, for instance. There are sexual overtones and history to acknowledge. But these are rational exclusions.

There is no doubt that all professions are subject to sexual issues that may creep up. They crop up in every workplace--not only in Doctors offices, physiotherapist offices, or in massage therapy offices. The default expectation is that professional people are qualified to give people equal care and to follow ethical guidelines. I understand that some people are more professional than others and that some are unsuited to their jobs. That is something we surely agree on.

As I said before, I believe that people incapable of giving equal care (in whatever field they are in) because of hang-ups, or for any reason whatsoever---definitely OUGHT to discriminate rather than risk exploiting a patient or client sexually.
