Are you sure the real goals aren't Empire, Israel's security and Oil Theft? The reason you give seems so..... well, I hate to suggest it, but the term that comes to mind is 'naive'. If we really wanted to establish autonomy, the best thing the U.S. could do would be to leave Iraq immediately and let them sort it out. That's what autonomy is all about. Anything else and we can be rightly accused of attempting to impose a quisling regime on an unwilling population.
