There will be no Dem candidate capable of winning 50% of primary voters this time around, not even close. Maybe 35% at the most, but more likely 30% max. That means the also-ran candidates and their delegates plus the Super Delegates and the party powers will ultimately decide the nominee.

Dean is doing the party a lot of good by bringing in the disgruntled left wing including many who voted for Nader. But that's still not the mainstream. If Clark wins, he can also help by bringing in conservative swing-voters who are defense-minded. Both helpful, but neither one should be the nominee.

Unions will make Gephardt a contender but the real deal is Kerry. It is his nomination to lose in the long-run. If he doesn't quite win that means things are dead-locked. Then don't be surprised to see Gore again. He is the only man who could morally do this as he was cheated out of the White House in 2000. That said, I still expect Kerry to gradually win the mainstream Dems over and be Dean and Gephardt voters second choice as well.
