<<The United States, which has de facto control in Baghdad as the main occupying power, needs cash and troops from other nations but says it does not believe Iraqis can take power as quickly as European governments -- especially France -- are proposing.>>

Time will reveal how this plays out. The oil consuming nations all have a stake at ensuring Iraq is in a position to progressively produce more oil each year until it reaches its maximum production in say 10-15 years from now.

I can only imagine the motivation of France to get Iraqi's in charge ASAP is good for France somehow. I hope the Iraqi's who end up in charge remember very well who voted to keep them under the reign of terror. Let the Iraqi's remember who signed contracts that will not stand up to a competitive bidding process now.

I believe thThe French government has large stakes in the oil companies that signed very lucrative contracts with Saddam.
