If that happens it will destroy GOP credibility for many years, which would be as bad for our country as their successful attempts at destroying Democrat credibility

I'm as concerned as you about a complete loss of GOP credibility, which I think is in the process of happening. While I'm more comfortable with a disorganized party such as the Democrats having an imbalance of power, that's also not good. History of the past 40 years has shown the GOP to be the champion spenders of all time, but if the Dems got a lock on all branches of gov't, got in as many ex-felons into the Executive Branch and maintained their jellyfish Congress, they could give the GOP a run for it.

The net result is degredation and disgrace of both parties, reduction in good people to run for office, and withdrawal of voters from a corrupt process until some sort of Jeffersonian revolt.

I'll tell you, certainly tons are spent on surveys every day of the week. The divide into two parts: external consumption and the "real" surveys for internal use.

The disconcerting thing about the internal Winston confidential survey was its use of bogus data for consumption of the GOP leadership. This means Rove has targeted them for deception and manipulation as much as anyone else. They'll end up paying dearly if he loses the gamble.
