"I still haven't heard anything that would justify being hateful to gays."
From whom were you expecting to hear this justification? Not me I hope. I don't think there is a justification for hating someone because of their sexual orientation. Such hate is immorally wrong.
From the Masseus? He sees it as I do. He doesn't find the existence of homosexuals to be an inconvenience either. Where'd ya come up with that? He interacts with homosexual men and with women in passing on a daily basis, much the same as you or I would. He simply recognizes the reality, that some people (not all) by the fact of their orientation are likely to get turned on by his style of massage and has opted to not serve people of that type; women, and homosexual men.
He would not go so far as to perform "checks" to assure that his clientele are straight men who view his service as strictly physical therapy. So, there is no absolute assurance that no one would ever get turned on by his touch but he is a mature adult and is prepared to deal with this unlikelyhood when he crosses that bridge. He would simply end the session, and excuse the client.
"...get past that chip you have ..."
What chip... Your side of the argument (solon, you, X) have gone on tangents to define the masseus as sexually hung up, and a hateful descriminatory bigot. It is unjustified.
"Pulling the covers over your head ...
LOL...That is exactly what I think is happening when people prefer to dismiss things as hate and bigotry that are ... nottt... simply because it fits the PC rhetoric of the day.
"But no, you expect the world to accommodate this guy fully, even to revere him for his high principles."
I certainly expect the world to accommodate him fully and have seen no reason that the world would be just in not doing so... The "revere" part is your "chip." I have said no such thing. You don't want him accommodated because it offends you. Your intolerances to him keep you high-lighting offences that don't qualify but you are still annoyed enough to nudge them along.
"If he's not prepared to address the conflict with an open mind, he's got a tough row to hoe. If he'd rather curse the darkness than light a candle, I guess that's his choice to make.
His light is the only one on the issue. You are the wind that seeks to put it out. Just be honest and admit it. You wish he would just hush up and pretend to go along with the system that is not treating him justly. |
