Dean may not see himself as a liberal. I don't know if Dean ran away from the term "liberal", but
usually, we can not argue with a person's convictions. For instance, I saw John Ashcroft
on ABC news last week. Ashcroft said his religious beliefs were important to him.
Even if I had never heard of John Ashcroft, I would have to accept his statement as true. Otherwise,
I would have to call him a liar and there isn't any way that I could prove he was lying.
Likewise, if I told you I was an atheist, I don't believe
you could say conclusively that I wasn't.

I lived in Canada for approximately 15 years and when I returned to the United States,
I noticed that people wanted to stick a label on you immediately. You were conservative.
Or you were liberal.

Perhaps the press is partly to blame for America's obsession with labels.
After all, It is a quick way for the media to identify someone.Still, when I was
a Canadian resident, I never felt that I was under any pressure to identify myself
as one or the other.

I heard about Dean's remark about the Israel/Palestine conflict. It's too bad he
backed down.
