Bringing our dialog to a personal place, I do share your opposition to religious fanaticism from all sources. But here again we would have to define precisely what we meant by religious fanaticism. Fundamental theological differences should never be sacrificed to the urge to conform to political correctness.

From my perspective, we share a common fallen humanity, a common frailty, and a common desire to meet on a neutral plateau where conditioned and socially constructed realities are abandoned, if for only a brief moment, so that we can confirm that we uphold the right of human dignity and self-determination for each individual. There we can shake hands, smile and confirm the beauty of God's creation. But no matter how beautiful these moments are, the conflict of good and evil and of right and wrong continues, and we are forced to choose, forced to support truth against falsehood and light against darkness.
