Anybody who wants to see Jewish tribalism at its most extreme should peruse the BOOK OF ESTHER -- read in temples all over America on the holiday of Purim.

This holiday celebrates the triumph of ancient Persian Jews over their enemy Haman via the influence of Jewish Queen Esther on her husband the king.

Nothing wrong with this of course. But what horrified me about this episode is not the killing of Haman as such. This kind of thing was common in ancient times. But the BOOK OF ESTHER glorifies the killing not just of Haman, but Haman's 10 sons and all his many thousands of followers in the kingdom.

Anyone aware of this episode will not be surprised by the shocking history of Israeli crimes against the Palestinians for three generations now.

Interesting but not surprising that the infamous Baruch Goldstein carried out his horrifying massacre of dozens of unarmed Muslem worshippers on Purim.
