Jim, I traveled plenty in Europe way before the present situation.

For sure you can not brush a nation by their leaders and there are millions upon millions of decent warm and honest people in France or Germany for that matter.

I found that Danes, Dutch Italians are the nicest people in Old Europe. As specific to the French their is a big discrepancy between Paris or Marseilles who are outright arrogant and nasty (if you speak English) an the French as a nation. They still count themselves as " The big Power" but are notorious turning their back when you mostly need them - see the what happen before after the 1956 Suez war........ or Indochina war ....... or the Algiers war ...... or their stand regarding NATO since 1950 or any other conflict the French participated in Africa since WWII .....

Aside from the French political leadership who is corrupt and if not for their immunity would sit in jail I have my own reservation about the French leftist or the rightist.

Further the French are very vocal about a myriad of issues but it seems to me they care less having a felon as head of state which speaks volumes.

Now I would add to that around 6 million or more non indigenous French who settled there since the Algiers war and who breed international terrorist.

So the bottom line is who you count as representatives of all French? Your Ice cream lady ? I do not think so,... as there are so many nice and decent French people who also disagree with the policies of their leaders over the years.

As to the US .... well we have also our type of industrial mafia spanning over several industries ....... , that is why energy and drugs are so expensive.....

Regardless the American are a very generous assembly of of people who emigrated over the years from many nations ... yes they have their own shortfals and will leave it at that
