It was whether or not he has the 'freedom of conscience' to set such boundaries.

No one has the freedom of conscience to break the law. Well, he does, but then he gets to pay whatever penalty goes with breaking that law. You get to write "Letters from a Birmingham Jail" while you stand on your conscience. Unless you can get conscientious objector status and an exemption to the law, you either follow the law or you pay the penalty.

The question was not whether his ability to distinguish, met with your satisfaction or not.

An approach is either workable or it isn't. My pointing out that something isn't workable isn't about satisfying me (except to the extent of satisfying me that I have done my duty to try to straighten something out for someone).

Your only argument so far is that he should either be willing to have that 'trained' out of him or leave the profession.

At least I thought I was successful. If you still think those were my only two alternatives, something's out of whack. You belatedly accepted my suggestion that he service gays until such time as they behaved inappropriately and which time he could show them the door. That solves the practical problem of discrimination while enabling your therapist can hold onto his belief that the whole world is aquiver at the prospect of his touch. A win-win, if I ever saw one. No one gets discriminated against and your therapist does not have to be "reeducated" or give up his career. Yep, this one goes in the win column.
