Hawk, I appreciated your pretty ugly oxymorons. You see now that Faultline was kidding. The wink was as good as a grinny.
My reference to military intelligence being voted out was more than a comment on Chuckie's nasty comments [which have been quite prolific really]. As the excerpt you quoted showed, my concern is military intelligence getting the upper hand on We the Sheeple, without the redeeming merit that use of the word intelligence mistakenly implies. Countries run by militaries, even military intelligences, are notoriously unpleasant and repressive.
I think it's fair comment to disparage military intelligence, especially in the current hunt for WMDs and basis for the attack on Saddam [and a lot of other examples I've seen over the decades]. Sure, they are just people trying to do a good job and often have come up with the goods. The disparagement is because of the tendency for them to set themselves as being above and superior to We the Sheeple. Well, sorry for them but they are not. Long may we keep it that way. There are altogether too many people wishing to set themselves above We the Sheeple and they universally do NOT have our interests at heart. They have their interests at heart. That's just how people are. Me included. You too. The 'altruistic' are for themselves too. They get the satisfaction of doing something for others, which makes them feel good about themselves. Or, it makes things better overall, from which they benefit too. Which is my brand of altruism.
There is also philanthropic investing = those who can afford it should take high risk investments, with great risk of losing their money, but with great benefits to people if they succeed, and probably great profits too, which would then of course make a bigger philanthropic bet possible - see $ill and Melinda Gates' Foundation for how big philanthropic expenditure can be. The ordinary bloke who has to be secure with their bit of money can't afford the risks.
True, I was giving a disparaging comment in passing to Chuckie because he had made some uncalled for and nasty remarks to our great, wonderful and fair leader, Faultline, who rose from his sickbed to bring order where disorder reigned. Perhaps I overstepped the mark in making personal comments about Chuckie in reply. Chuckie can of course reply to me by PM and tell me what he really thinks [it is obviously a he]. As you know, I make very, very few personal comments because I know there's no good reason to do so.
Sometimes but very rarely, I make some, trying to be a bit funny and maybe even guide the recipient to see something which others see rather than just making gratuitous insults which none of us respond well to.
My favourite example of military intelligence was the frog man and woman bombing of the Rainbow Warrior. That was multimoron, not just oxymoron. Examples abound. Military and police should be a highest calling - unfortunately that's all too often not the case. Especially when conscription is underway.
