Dean's the phenom. McGovern in 1972. Goldwater in 1964. He will get the same results, of course, but THIS is how both parties periodically clean themselves out and adjust to the political trends of the future. It explains why we have been virtually a two-party system since the Civil War ended. It also explains why our two-party system provides more stability than British-style democracy and the multi-party systems in other European nations.

The Democrats are in danger of being destroyed in 2004, and the two-party system with them. That would be a long-term negative for the country. My own opinion is that Clintonism (a viscous form of moral and intellectual corruption) and overt treason (chic among most Democrat elitists) will be washed out by their massive 2004 defeat, but the party-now over 200 years old-will survive...
