Radio (adnmittedly not always an accurate source) says all those punch cards won't be replaced by other, supposedly more reliable means by the Nov 2004 election. So does the 2004 election get cancelled since the CA electoral votes (54 of them) can't be cast without the popular election? Does Bush remain in office past January 20, 2005 if the election is not held by then? What of CA's 52 representatives? Do they stay in office or does CA lose its Congressional representation? Would any law passed by Congress after Jan 2005 be valid if the CA Nov 2004 election is not held? And even if the radio is wrong and the plan is to replace the punch card ballots with other means of voting, suppose it has not completely happened? No election? The plan is to replace punch cards with electronic voting. MSI on Politics for Pros claims that is seriously insecure. Would an election using electronic voting machines be valid if the machines are hackable, either over the net or by the original programmers? And what of absentee ballots? How can that be done electronically? With a possibly hackable website? CA state law says ANY registered voter is entitled to vote absentee just for asking. I've done it in every election since 1980.
