So, let me see if I'm understanding this correctly.

I think it's pretty well-known the disdain I have for "Filtering" or "Ignore", and only implemented them on iHub because of the amount of demand. Easier to implement them than to spend the rest of my life explaining why they're such self-destructive tools when mis-used, which is going to be the case better than 90% of the time. The old "He's not giving me warm fuzzies about my investment, so I don't want to read him" thing.

That said, you'll probably understand why I use the word "Kool-Aid" below...

If I understand correctly, what you're suggesting is a kind of "Drink the Kool-Aid" checkbox or button present on each thread/board, and if the user selects that option, all posts by authors the thread moderator has added to an Ignore list specific to that thread will be ignored by the readers. Unselecting that option makes all posts visible again save for what the user's own filters/ignores hide.

About right?

And along with making that option available, doing away with the "Moderated Thread" model whereby the moderator can exclude people from posting.

I'm nowhere near ready to make any changes to SI's interface, but when I am ready, I'd like to be ready for an optimimum moderation model that not only pleases most users but addresses my concerns about the site being used manipulatively.
