1602 Over 150,000 Most Top Books Down September 16, 2003
1602, Marvel's new Neil Gaiman miniseries, was Diamond's top book in August, selling over 150,000 copies. Batman was up slightly over last month, as were Ultimate X-Men, Ultimate Spider-Man, Amazing Spider-Man, and Daredevil. All the rest of the top 25 comic titles were down, as is fairly typical for late summer. Also having an impact was the fact that there were only four of Diamond's shipping weeks in August, vs. five in July, which meant there was one less week of reorders for titles from early in the month. DC's Batman and Superman Batman were the only non-Marvels in the top 15 titles. Dreamwave's Transformers Generation One Volume 2 was the only non-premier title in the top 25.
DC and Dark Horse had more books near the top of the graphic novel list, where DC's second Y The Last Man trade paperback topped the graphic novel list, with around 7,900 sold by Diamond. Dark Horse had the #3 graphic novel with its Book of Hauntings. DC had six of the top ten graphic novels, Dark Horse two, and Marvel two.
