People have a right to protest. Greenpeace and the Raging Grannies protested plants I worked at or was visiting. My personal opinion is that there are a lot of things that can be done to improve existing coal fired power plants. Sure full scale scrubbers would be great but turbine upgrades can get more output and improve the heat rate. Control system upgrades can improve combustion efficiency and existing emission control systems. Also low Nox burners and boiler upgrades can make a plant run cleaner.
