ShilohCat, Can you say "totalitarian police state"? "Closed society"? Good. Repeat them after me "totalitarian police state". "Closed society". It was not easy to get information out of Baghdad. That's why the UN and various intelligence agencies were reduced to monitoring imported chemicals and interviewing defectors. They never said they knew where the WMDs were. They said they knew from imports, programs, defectors and general pattern of behavior that Saddam either had them or had really destroyed them with no record, just for the fun of staying under sanctions, apparently.
