But I think it's common in upscale tract housing -- is that basically where you live?

It's not where I live now. I live in a National Historic District, colonial style, vintage WWII. But that is where I've been shopping for a new home to the extent that I'm looking in this area. Outer suburb developments, big houses. The problem I have in house shopping is that I want the features of "upscale tract housing" without all the rooms. I look at the few available models with the master suite on the first floor figuring that I can just ignore the several additional bedrooms upstairs. I would prefer a single story home but you don't find them here. The Tucson house is two story with a downstairs master suite. I've gone so far as to draw up my own one-story floor plan with everything just where I want it and I will consider having it built if I can't find what I want where I want it. I just adore windows--big, elaborate, interesting windows. I could live in a plain box if it just had interesting windows.
