By the way this wasn't in the regular Gold Newsletter but in the thing he has started sending out quarterly called Gold Newsletter's Mining Share Focus. As far as I know it goes to all subscribers. I never asked for it.
In answer to your question about payment here is the small print disclaimer that I just noticed on the back of Mining Share Focus.

"The mining companies featured in this edition of Mining Share Focus have reimbursed the publisher for the costs of printing and distributing this edition. Authors of articles contained herein may have been compensated for their services in preparing such articles. However, the information and recommendations contained in this edition meet the same standards as those for regular editions of Gold Newsletter in which the featured companies make no reimbursement to the publisher."
