Even better - Chris Brough is the co-founder/CEO and a large owner of the company along with Ian Pearson --his partner. I think it's reasonably clear that the whole troop is pretty committed to the bottom line --it's not like they have a huge leeway yet. On the Unofficial Reboot site there is a tour of the offices with photos and you can tell that they aren't going around spending silly money on appearances. It's a tough business and you can't look past the botom line. I think the COO is an ex-accountant with experience in liquidation & re-org so he must be a tough one on budgets.

One of the nice things is that they learned with ReBoot that it's best not to risk much money (preferably none) on projects. Don't do anything unless you've got committments from distributors, sponsors or programmers. Everything they've done since ReBoot has been fully sponsored, hence negligible risk.

They have not released details of the "Closing Time" and "MDK" deals, so it will be interesting to see the final structures.

As for your point, I agree with them --I think 3D/CGI is the way to go with animation. If you can replicate traditional 2D plus have all the benefits of effects, production efficiency etc.. at a similar (or hopefully in the future lower) cost, then it should be preferable. There are very few businesses in the world that have escaped the global trend of higher cost labor being squeezed out by advances in technology and automation.

Mainframe says that they can now produce a 13-26 episode series for just slightly more than traditional hand-drawn. As wage rates in Korea and China increase (which they are) and the speed/output/productiviey of computer animation increases, it's got to cross the line like every other business.

On top of it all --3D/CGI looks so much better than traditional!
