Bush: No evidence Saddam was involved in 9/11 attacks
WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Bush said Wednesday there was no evidence that Saddam Hussein was involved in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 -- disputing an idea held by many Americans.
"There's no question that Saddam Hussein had al Qaeda ties," the president said. But he also said, "We have no evidence that Saddam Hussein was involved with the September 11" attacks.
The president's comment was in line with a statement Tuesday by Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, who said he not seen any evidence that Saddam was involved in the attacks.
Yet, a new poll found that nearly 70 percent of respondents believed the Iraqi leader probably was personally involved. Rumsfeld said, "I've not seen any indication that would lead me to believe that I could say that."

Now, how could the American people get that wrong perception? It couldn't be because Bush, Cheney, Rumsfield and Rice constantly brought up Saddam and 9/11 in the same statements, and that is the message that they wanted to convey, could it? It couldn't be that their arguments for invading Iraq were very weak, and they wanted to create that perception, without ever saying that Saddam was involved, thus giving them deniability? Naw, how could anybody even think that the man who ran on giving credibility and integrity to the White House would do that?
He has now taken the first step in accepting the FACT that this administration has deceived the American people from the start. There were no chemical weapons. There was no nuke program. Saddam wasn't involved in 9/11. The war wasn't over quickly. The Iraqi people did not welcome us with open arms as their liberators. Now he has to work on the al Queda deception.
How about really coming clean by clearly stating that 16 of the 19 terrorists were from Saudi Arabia, and that the funding came from Saudi Arabia? How about coming clean about the secret energy meetings? How about explaining to the American people why all of the pages in the 9/11 report that mentioned Saudi Arabia's involvement were deleted. How about explaining why special permission was granted to the Bin Ladens to leave this country right after 9/11, while the rest of the country was grounded?
How about it Bush? This is a 12 step process. There is a lot more to explain.
