With the claim that Saddam had a 9-11 connection now being denied, the Al Qaeda-Saddam connection is still maintained. This connection seems to rest on Abu Musab Zarqawi. There is little doubt that Zarqawi has some "connection" with Al Qaeda, and that he has spent some time in Iraq. Anything beyond that enters the realm of conjecture, although you would never dream that if you only read the RW propaganda. That he is a Jordanian of Palestinian descent, and active against Israel is not in question. That Saddam allowed anti-Israeli operatives train in Iraq is also not news. Later, Zarqawi went to Afghanistan and trained Jordanian/Palestinian operatives loosely under Al Qaeda control. But any "connection" between Zarqawi and Saddam has never been demonstrated (IMO) and any "activity" in Iraq after his "association" with Al Qaeda seems suspect. This "association" seems to be more of an affiliation because of similar interest wrt Israel than him becoming part of the Al Qaeda inner circle.

With the US invasion of Iraq, everything changed. That "Al Qaeda" types are now operating in Iraq, wouldn't surprise me. But the US is responsible for this, not Zarqawi.

If this is the best the Admin can do on Al Qaeda-Saddam links, I'm sorry, but it's a long way from justifying either the invasion or occupation.
