Nixon had the same arrogant, vicious attitude,

which practically destroyed the GOP, and damaged it for decades.

the idiotic contemporary left...

Unless there's a change, the GOP will go down in flames once again.

Even a "kinder, gentler fascist" image won't work, its been tried already under Bush Senior.

Bush is nothing without terrorism. They are now in a box -- if terrorism stops, the power of the threat will cease and Americans will look at the substance of issues. If terrorism increases, it will show that Bush has failed to take effective action, and the GOP will become "The Party of Terrorism", since the game of terrorism/counter-terrorism seems to peak when the GOP is in the White House.

The only way out for Bush now is to show success in domestic and foreign policies, both of which are at present dismal failures, as was recently noted. Two actions would accomplish much of that -- turning over Iraq to the UN, and rolling back tax cuts for the wealthiest 5%. He can do neither. Neither can they attempt to fix the damage in creating the domestic police state, or such handouts as the $180 billion farm subsidy bill for wealthy landowners.
