If Arafat had made so much money, then - if he were that sort of person - would he not accept honourable (or just anonymous) exile somewhere and spend the money, rather than living in squalor in a besieged encampment? If you're the kind of person to embezzle that much, it's presumably for spending. Nor did I realise that the US provided so much aid to him, in cash... A fine slur, but it doesn't make sense (not that much in the ME does but this really doesn't).
Meanwhile, I agree that most of the ME regimes could do with changing. But they're not held up as exemplars to anyone, and besides - they're not the issue. they didn't expel the Palestinians and occupy their land... the Israelis did, and are.
So, I've proposed my solution.
Mine would work - given US pressure on Israel (simple enough when their country would collapse without the vast aid from the US) and general US/NATO enforcement against any Arab states tempted to intervene on the other side, again simple enough and undoubtedly even-handed, plus probably unnecessary since this plan is basically what the Saudis suggested last year...
What's your solution? You claim not to prefer latte and the snide, but you gave little bar the latter to Thomas M, and when I sugget workable plans you try changing the issue... |
