Hi,
Yes, it's always at least a little different each time around, but my point is many were "pounding the table" to learn Japanese in the 1980s, and now it has shifted to China to a great degree... Still others have been pounding the table for kids to learn Spanish, as it is becoming the second "official" language of the United States. <g> I am reasonably certain that 20 or 30 years from now, it will be another language that becomes the latest rage... I see the logic behind learning Chinese, simply because there are so many Chinese inhabiting the planet, but since I have studied Japanese to a certain extent, and the Japanese use the Chinese writing system combined with their own writing system, I know how difficult their ancient form of communication is, and to master the language correctly, one has to memorize at the minimum, at least thousands of symbols... After memorizing a few hundred or so, my appreciation for the English language alphabet increased dramatically! :) |
