They thought He meant their generation but He meant the generation that saw the nation of Israel re-established. That happened in 1948

i would respectfully disagree. could you point me to the scripture where the founding of the nation of israel in 1948 was prophesied?

That generation will not pass away until we see Jesus return

well a biblical generation is 40 years. hal lindsey already tried this prediction when he predicted the second coming in 1988, 40 years after the foundation of the state of israel. now hucksters like john hagee point to the capture of jerusalem in 1967 as the reference point, saying that it will happen by 2007. considering that hagee believes in a "secret rapture" before a seven year period of tribulation, i guess the tribulation should have started in the year 2000! perhaps he has come up with some other false concoction to justify a new set of dates. you must understand, i can only tolerate listening to him so much. i have better things to do than listen to false prophets leading people down a path of darkness, deception, and death.

Someone in that generation will certainly live 80 years so that could put the end as late as 2028

well i don't agree with these dispensationalists who base their end time prophesies on the modern nation of israel, but we do seem to agree that a biblical generation is 40 years.
