Brent, If God allows such tragic, bloody, and vicious, events to happen, then He must have been content with the idea that they would happen.
documented by whom?
Have you never heard of carbon dating? The process has been documented to be accurate, and such dating is accepted by all of the researchers on the planet. The layers of the rock formations around the world, have been accurately dated as to the time they were deposited. Fossils have been discovered, and have been dated to agree with the time period that the earth was laid in which the fossils were found. For those that are not controlled by, extremely, narrow minds, can accept that there is plenty of evidence for God, and science, to work together. No one knows the length of a day of God. Suppose the concept of a day, as mentioned in Genesis, is based on God's determination of the length of a day. How do we know what God looks like. Do you, really, believe that an, all powerful deity in the shape of a puny human, would be able to achieve such grandiose actions, and creations? Many Christians seem to think that the only responsibility God has, is to look over this one planet of Earth. There is a huge universe out there, you know. Are you pompous enough to believe that in the billions of stars in the universe have no planets orbiting around them? Should all men be so vain as to think they are the only intelligent beings that such a God would create? You are looking at the events of the Earth's past as you want them to be, and will not accept any other explanation. Too bad. Your brain is going to waste. There is more to the universe than you are willing to consider.
4,000 years is the age of the world touted by many fundamentalist Christians. I didn't dream it up, they did.
Can you narrow down the age of the Earth to a specific number of years? Of course not. Nobody can, but scientific findings comes closer than the writings of authors that depended upon oral legends thousands of years old.
I believe the words attributed to Jesus because they were written by those that live, ate, and slept, with Him, and witnessed the miracles he performed, and heard almost every word He said. Where did Jesus discuss the formation of the Earth? I never saw it in my Bible.
2 Timothy 3:16. And who said those words. Those are the words of a mortal, and flawed (as we all are) human being.
Believe what you must, and I will believe what I must. As you said, God gave us free will to think what we believe in. That does not cut God out of the picture. Regardless of how the universe, including Earth, was formed, there had to be a supreme power to start the process in motion. Something can never come from nothing. Or, do you believe that God created only this one planet for the playground of humans, and the rest of the universe just popped up out of the blackness of space?
Narrow mindedness is the road to ignorance, and blocks the expansion of the human mind.
Your mind is like a block of concrete, and nothing other than the original substances needed to make concrete, can enter that fortress. It is useless for us to continue this discussion. I will not change my views, and it appears obvious that you will not either. |
