<My potential for gain or loss is the same as if long. In fact I collect interest on the cash in the account.>

Even though you feel you are top of things, any short sell has unlimited risk with a limited potential gain

Buy a stock and your risk is limited to the amount invested
while your upside potential gain is unlimited.

So going short is never under any circumstances even remotely the same as going long a stock.

Do you remember what happened to the short sellers of RMBS in the first months of 2000?

You can follow the prices from the bottom up in the third column from the right.

There is the famous (and supposedly true) story of the wealthy gentleman who shorted a stock at 20 and went on a 6 month sail around the world-when he returned the stock was at 200 and he was ruined.

No broker I have ever used has let me collect interest on the proceeds of a short sell-this I have always thought to be a rip off.

I mean I really do wish you good luck, but please be careful.

Me I just stick to risk free stuff like going long little Canadian emerald explorers
