I was too relieved that he came out in one piece to think about anything else. Besides, he was otherwise so responsible. He made sure both our boats were out of the water, taken off their trailers in the back yard, and filled to the brim with water and that the house was all battened down before he ever went into the surf. And he purposely took me with him so that he wasn't out there alone, not that I could have done much had he gone under and not come up. He was the championship swimmer in the family, not me. Maybe not so responsible, after all. We really should have evacuated. However, in retrospect, I'm glad for the experience, even though or perhaps because it was scary. The wind the other day felt like an ordinary March.
