I doubt that safety BS flies, because for example the Maine plan wants to force buying from a few Canadian pharmacies, and only for a list of prequalified drugs.

The sad truth is that while the free market has been used as an excuse to derail the careers of many workers in the US and many small technology companies, the drug companies and a few pork-influenced congresspeople don't feel that the free market applies to them.
