Last week my younger son stated that he wanted to attend the annual organizational meeting for the Diversity Club at his high school.

Given that he's blond, blue-eyed, 6'2" , high IQ and a fan of Michael Savage, I asked him whether he wanted to attend because he liked hanging out with minority students or whether he wanted to make a statement.

He said he just wanted to see if they would accept him.

I told him that if he actually felt as if he were a member of a minority, or wanted to express solidarity with minorities, or just have fun hanging out with minorities, or, most basic, just have fun, then fine, but if he just wanted to tweak them, then my opinion was no.

He didn't go.

BTW, he is, at heart, a real sweetie, a very sweet, decent person, so he's distinctly in the minority regardless of race, sex, sexual orientation, creed or color, but he doesn't realize that yet.

I think with this minority stuff his heart is in the right place but he hasn't figured out how to articulate his thoughts yet. He knows something is wrong but he hasn't figured out what.

In the ideal world, color wouldn't matter, in the sense that you can prefer purple or red or cobalt blue, and who cares?
