"has white collar crime been as rampant as it is now?"
You abbreviated my question. Not that I blame you for doing so, of course - it's the only chance you've got to come out ahead in this discussion, and then only briefly. What I'd asked was:
And based upon what are you saying that never before - in history - has white collar crime been as rampant as it is now?

Ever hear of Enron, Worldcom, Anderson [sic],...
Sure, although I think you meant Andersen.
But despite that: again, based upon what historical comparison are you claiming that the last few years were different from, say, previous eras...the period leading to and just after the Crash of 1929, for instance? Or, perhaps, the period before the market collapses in 1907, 1893, 1873, etc.?
Just look at the number of companies, mutual funds, hedge funds,... that the NYS A. G. is investigating.
Is that necessarily a sign of wrongdoing, or is it indicative that regulatory agencies full of unelected bureaucrats find it easier, today - in an environment where the only revolting concept is that of personal responsibility - to encroach on private interests?
Go hug Grasso's nuts.
Very scholarly, and argued in the time-honored, legato manner of an angry piker.
